Monday Muse: Bennington College
Even though the days are still hot and long, there has been a shift in the air and in the light that signals the end of summer. There is a hint of a chill in the air and the days seem to grow shorter with each sunset, or maybe it is just a trick of the light. Lately, I’ve found myself inspired by Bennington College in Vermont. The college was at one time the most expensive school in the nation and boasts alumni such as Bret Easton Ellis, Donna Tartt, and Jonathan Lethem. This time of year always makes me crave going back to school. The return to the classroom, the ritual of sharpened pencils and fresh notebooks. Of picking out an outfit for the first day of school that gave off just the right impression. I am especially inspired this year by a sense of East Coast intellectual tomboy. There is something so alluring about the Ivy League intellectual inner circle. The classes spent with professors who really live for their craft and have dedicated their life to the arts. The unbridled boheme of collegiate dorm life. There is so much to be carried away with. So far, I’ve packed my fall wardrobe full of blazers, houndstooths, menswear pants, loafers, and rugby stripes. I plan on spending the evenings curled up with a classic novel or philosophy tome… that is until the next thing catches my eye.
What are you inspired by as we head into the fall season? Are you feeling the change in season as deeply as I am?
